I know this isn't a new video but I just came across it. Ellen openly discusses Lawrence (Larry) King's death. Lawrence King is the 8th grade boy shot in the head by his 8th grade classmate because he was gay. This video is definitely worth the 2 minutes to watch.

In response to Oklahoma's Representative Sally Kern, Ellen responds on her show. It's quite funny and honestly interesting to see the audience reaction to the Representative's bigotry. Then... Ellen calls Rep. Sally Kern.

From their press release:
Logo, a division of Viacom Inc.'s (NYSE: VIA and VIA.B) MTV Networks, today announced it is launching a public service announcement in response to the brutal murder of Lawrence King, a 15-year-old Oxnard, California boy who was shot at point blank range February 12th. King was allegedly shot by 14-year-old fellow student Brandon McInerney, who is being charged with a hate crime.
King, who died days after the shooting, had previously revealed to other students that he was gay and had worn makeup and feminine clothing just days before he was shot. The epidemic of hate crimes against the LGBT community continues, as evidenced by the murder of 17-year-old Simmie Williams in Florida just days after the King murder.
The 60-second PSA, which premiered this morning at LOGOonline.com, features community activist, writer and actress Calpernia Addams (Logo's Transamerican Love Story), Andre 3000 (OutKast), R&B artist Ashanti, singer/songwriter Sarah Bareilles, actress Portia de Rossi (Arrested Development, Nip/Tuck), international performer Estelle, singer/actress Janet Jackson, actor T.R. Knight (Grey’s Anatomy), R&B artist Little Sister, actor Darryl Stephens (Logo’s Noah’s Arc) and singer/songwriter Taylor Swift.
"One more murder, one more life lost, one more attempt to provoke fear and one more reason hate crimes must end. We hope this PSA will help inspire more people to join the fight against hate crimes," said Brian Graden, President, MTV Networks Music Group Entertainment; and President, Logo.
Logo will make the spot available – as well as a shortened 30-second version – to Logo's sister brands across MTV Networks as well as other networks that wish to air the spot. MTV Networks has a long history of educating about hate crimes including the production and airing of numerous PSAs as well as an event on January 10, 2001, when MTV replaced 18 hours of programming with nothing but the names and stories of hate crime victims.

Inspired by a speech that Barack Obama made in New Hampshire, will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas joined with a number of musicians and actors and put Obama's speech to music. Not only is this video outstanding - but Obama's speech is absolutely phenomenal. Watch the video below. I promise it's worth it.

I could not be more proud of my former coworker Jeana Frazzini (see video below) who has just in the last month filled the shoes of BRO's Executive Director. Hats off to her for an amazing job well done as well as to the staff at Basic Rights Oregon. And congrats to all our Oregonians! Fairness, justice and equality have had a bumpy ride - but Domestic Partnerships are the law!

Mitt Romney Defends Himself Against Allegations Of Tolerance
We've posted videos from the Onion before and people believed them to be true, instead of the satire that they are. Just a little FYI for those folks.

I know we've posted this before, but today feels like a good day for a refresher. 'Let California Ring' is a massive public education project - educating Californians about why marriage equality matters. Their commercial is below. PS - They need to raise money to help get this on more airwaves. Have 10 bucks? Make a contribution. Link below the video.
Like the video? Want to see marriage equality in California? Go here to watch again and to donate - even if it is 10 bucks. It all helps.

Across the Universe which opens in theaters next weekend looks absolutely amazing. They took 33 Beatles songs and make a musical/movie out of it. From the creative genius who brought The Lion King on Broadway, I predict this movie will become a favorite with the queer community. Check out the trailer (which doesn't quite do it justice). More to come this week.

Dan Savage (Savage Love) did a great interview last night on CNN regarding Sen. Larry Craig's recent "bathroom hookup" with a man and explains that it is actually self-proclaimed 'straight' men who are closeted that are truly the ones who take part in this sort of activity.

This is exactly why Federal Hate Crimes legislation is needed and President Bush fails to see why--and threatens to veto it. Thank God he is on his way out and we have strong candidates who will in fact stand up for all of America, not just those farthest to the right.

Gavin here. I'm heading out into the great outdoors this weekend so I will also be taking a hiatus from blogging until the beginning of next week.
I do want to leave you with one thing though. In California there is a massive coalition of fair-minded groups who have launched a massive public education campaign. I leave you with this great video from the new campaign. See you all on the other side.

So over at World 'Nut' Daily they're reporting about a gay pride organizer from Wisconsin who is now facing a felony charge after police say he sought to meet a 14-year-old boy via the internet for a sexual encounter. Is this ok? Of course not. The folks here at Gay Rights Watch couldn't be more against this type of thing. BUT...
First, why is this a big news story to them? If our blog reported on every single straight man who did this, we wouldn't have time to do anything else but type-type-type. I mean come on now, don't you watch To Catch a Predator? Straight man after straight man who get caught in stings trying to have sex with 12, 13 and 14 year-old girls.
Second, just look at the following list of recent youth pastors (World Net Daily's peeps) who got busted...
